I designed and illustrated this book cover as my first freelance project. My client had just finished writing her first autobiography about her childhood during World War II and how it impacted her life growing up. This book cover inspired me to pursue this area of design in the future. The client knew exactly what she wanted so the planning process was simple. I came into the meeting with layout sketches, her desired inspiration for the smoke, and what colours would be used. She wished to include two significant buildings from London, I helped the client decide what fit best with our chosen layout. I most loved the idea of using warm colours on the front and how the mood transitions to a cooler, darker setting on the back. This was digitally painted in Photoshop and the buildings took more time and concentration. The client was astonished by the final result and how well I depicted her story.
